040: COSMETICS "Soft Skin" 7"
Cosmetics are a two piece from Vancouver, BC. Their music is made for dancing, and with feeling and attention to the details. Their trip is sleek and synthetic meets human emotion. Cosmic glamour meets do-it-yourself. Voice and a rhythm. Frosty tropics and hazy nites. Love on the beat. Nic M and Aja Emma formed Cosmetics in Summer 2008, the first band for both of them. In 2009 they put together the Tuff Trax 8-track studio in their home where they work on sound and visuals every day. Cosmetics is their lifestyle. "Soft Skin" is a bonechillingly cold track with an irresistable beat.

039: WETDOG "Lower Leg" 7"
Wetdog have a new 7" out called 'Lower Leg' this week which is great. I immediately I get bits of The Slits and The Raincoats. Well this is far from cocks. It's great spiky pop music which sounds like it's falling to bits but it somehow manages to stay in one piece relatively unscathed. It's a fantastic pop tune bursting with energy and I'm already in my fifth spin... I will not leave this tune alone. Total single of the week if I ever heard one!!! -Norman Records
$5.50 ::
038: HANOI JANES "Across The Sea" 7"
"I'm getting majorly sore cheeks from grinning and top tapping to these freewheelin' bung pop gems from Sachsen, Germany, while being simultaneously amazed at how they explode in rich technicolour with such a full sound - fried guitar licks, cheery vocal squeaks and twinkling xylophone runs - but are largely the work of one guy named Oliver Scharf. I found Oliver through his Zac Efron-channeling solo project Male Models, but soon learnt it was just "a one afternoon project" - and that his other moniker Hanoi Janes will be used for all future musical forays, along with a couple of pals banging some drums from time to time." -Rose Quartz
$5.50 ::
037: DIGNAN PORCH "On A Ride" 7"
"A brief burst of sweetly melancholic garage pop reminding me of some mid-90's MTV vibe back when it had weird lo-fi videos in the AM that would kind of stick in your brain, or perhaps it was just me being easily susceptible at the time. Anyway, this new London band reminds me fondly of many things from the era, as well as having something of a more psychedelic Skygreen Leopards air to it. Definitely one to keep an eye out for." - Don't Die Wandering
$5.50 ::
036: VERONICA FALLS "Found Love In A Graveyard" 7"
"So this is what the afterlife looks like for the teenage bedroom-buried, cassette-tape entombed legacy of C86, now possessing a new generation of beautiful bookworms after its initial believers let slip their hopeful dreams of forever – a little more world-worn and ghostly palloured than its precursor but clutching the same cosy, sunday morning pop sensibility to its chest all the same. “Found Love In A Graveyard” by London’s sore-hearted collectors of all things group harmonised and unrequitedly in love VERONICA FALLS sees the rosy-cheeked, cardigan chaste pinup of countless 7” single sleeves ago revisited twenty years on and we find her in a strange state – powerlessly possessed in a torn wedding dress, tearing flowers to pieces by the grave of some morbidly handsome beau who jilted her for another world altogether. You get the feeling she’ll pull through though, and by the time the chorus (a real, dead-raising miracle of a chorus no less) drops, the declaration of “I’m Broken Hearted” sounds less the weepy drivel of a person driven to distraction and more a declaration of empowerment and pride. You’ve got to suffer to sing the blues, or something like that." -Transparent.
$5.50 ::
VR-009: LED ER EST "Dust On Common" LP
"Wierd is proud to present the debut LP by Led Er Est Dust on Common. This the band's first full-length release shows the three piece clearly breaking out of the Wierd minimal synth underground they have been a vitally integral part of since its inception in Brooklyn to create an undeniably contemporary set of highly crafted and restrained, icily psychedelic pop songs. Synthesizing countless disparate musical influences from first wave British industrial music to house, disco, and the largely unknown cold wave (aka 'La Vague Froide') tradition in Northern Europe, the 9 killer trax on 'Dust' fly by, straight out of the frozen hot, lonely cold plains of vocalist Samuel Kklovenhoof's native central Texas. After digesting a few songs of this rich dust, the listener can do no other than lie down in the wild wierd Laredo bunker to revel in the refreshingly brisk blast of hedonistic analogue pleasure dancing through the airwaves in the sky above...Ladies and gentlemen, presenting Led Er Est!" -Wierd Records
$14.00 ::
VR-008: XENO & OAKLANDER "Sentinelle" LP
"The long-awaited full-length debut album from Xeno & Oaklander is now available! Functioning as the absolute core of the electronic wing of the Wierd world since their beginnings in 2004, Miss Liz Wendelbo and Sean McBride here present a carefully composed, restrained and complex form of moody electronic pop music that is simultaneously romantically melancholic and affirmatively aggressive. Recorded entirely live in the studio with exclusively analogue instruments, Sentinelle situates itself as a series of highly crafted cinematic vignettes which takes as its vantage point a fictitious era in a long-passed distant age: a time of wandering desert travelers, forgotten underwater cities, and exquisitely sculptural objects; of arid land, sea-farers and ferrymen, blinding light and lonely rooms, precious metals and poisonous corrosion. Themes of paranoia and disaffection associated with the transformation felt during the industrial revolution(a stand-in for our contemporary digital malaise), as well as odes to the many gifts of its legacy - motion pictures, cameras, synthesizers, and voltage control, are traversed throughout the epic journey of this minimal electronic masterpiece, allowing the listener to gaze out of the frozen cold window onto the many radical paradigm shifts of the twentieth century, and is a true sonic portrait of this eminently fragile era in transition." -Wierd Records

035: WILD NOTHING "Summer Holiday" 7"
Emotive and well-crafted hazey pop from a 21-year old Virginian named Jack Tatum. His penchant for wistful melodies and full, gorgeous arrangements show a talent that's not just another bedroom pop one-man band. Debut LP on Captured Tracks coming next year.
$5.50 ::
034: GIRLS AT DAWN - S/T 12" EP
Right on the the heels of their debut 7" on HoZac comes this 4-song
12" EP. Drawing from post-punk, psychedelic and 60's pop influences,
these three girls from Brooklyn make haunting melodies bridged with
there/not-there ghostly arrangements.
$10.00 ::
033: LED ER EST "Poll Gorm/Man And Tree" 7"
Led Er Est add an organic and warm element to synth/drum machine-based music, all
with good songwriting at it's heart. The a-side is manic and the b-side melodic.
These two songs are not on their current LP, and they're two of their best.
$5.50 ::
032: SILK FLOWERS "As Above So Below" 12" EP
Six track EP by this current NYC live staple.
Eerie and experimental electronic pop.

$5.50 ::
030: GERMAN MEASLES - Wild 12" Maxi-EP / Mini-LP
Out of control, drugged up, fucked up madness from Brooklyn's premiere party freaks. Almost the polar opposite of this spring's cassette release - these songs are confident, insane and beautifully recorded by Gary Olson. Some sort of funky mix of The Soup Dragons, Black Randy, Protex and The Fall had they recorded for Bhudda. All the subtlety of Sonny Bono trying to barge his way into a restaurant while wearing a fur vest. Features 2/4ths of the legendary Cause Co-Motion!
$12.00 ::
029: CHRISTMAS ISLAND - S/T 7"
Two song seven inch about the pits and perils of ages Nineteen and Twenty-Nine, respectively. Part Flying Nun, part Bubblegum. This coincides with a fantastic upcoming LP release on In The Red. One of our favorite bands.
$5.50 ::
028: SPECTRALS - S/T 7"
A young British man named L. single handedly produced this dreamy, Sonic Flower Groovy fuzz-pop stomper, although it sounds like it could have been recorded at Gold Star in 1965 for release on Creation in 1985. Two tracks, one million hooks. We're really proud to be putting this out in anticipation of a 2010 Captured Tracks LP.
$5.50 ::
027: THEE OH SEES - Dog Poison LP / CD
We are proud to put out a full-length record by the prolific Oh Sees, and boy, is this one a monster. More layered and textural than previous Oh Sees releases while keeping all the typical Dwyer punch, oomph and weirdness. 10 fantastic new songs, terrifying pencil-drawn sleeve. Our second LP release, and we couldn't be more pleased with it.
LP $13.00 ::
CD $12.00 ::
026: GANGLIANS - S/T 7"
If you liked the 12" EP and LP by these Sacramento weird-poppers, then you'll love this, their first non-split 7". Two equally amazing tracks, and in our opinion, two of their best

"East" is the next installment of the Bitters story. Featuring Ben Cook of Fucked Up/Young Governor and the great voice of Aerin Fogel, The Bitters "cave pop" is doomy as it is infectious. Coming live soon to a theatre near you.

The influence of The Move's bass sound and arrangements, 60's folk-rock vocal harmonies and the Neo Boys are present in the works, plus a whole magic power they have all thepir own. That's right: magic power. Magick?
