On Rotation with Holograms
May 28, 2013
Two members of Holograms put together playlists of what they were listening to around the time of writing and recording their upcoming sophomore album, Forever. Listen below and be sure to keep and eye and ear out for news on the new record, out September 3.
Andreas / Lagerström’s Playlist
Unter den Linden – Film Noire // This is a song from an underrated Swedish band (I guess two, because on this LP Unter den Linden collaborated with the band “Att Som”) that I really obsessed over on our last tour. I really like the lyrics, the singer has a very strange way of using the Swedish language.
Chameleons – Second Skin // The best Chameleons tune in my opinion. I want Mark Burgess bass that he has in the video so bad.
Death in June – The Honour of Silence // Another tune that I listen to constantly on tour. It’s a perfect song, homoerotic.
Colin Newman – Order for Order // I’ve listened a lot to Wire, but never heard about Colin Newman’s solo stuff before a friend introduced me to A-Z. Killer synths.
A Frames – Memoranda // One of my favorite bands, they have such admirable consistency in their aesthetics. Listening to their music is like being drenched in their dogma.
Christian Death – Romeo’s Distress // Me and Anton Strandberg (drums) have loved this song for years. When the church bells kick in on the studio version, we get pumped.
Cult of Youth – New West // Another tour song. I really like how Sean Ragon kind of takes the tropes of European Neo-Folk and twists them into a distinctly American way, but I might be over analyzing.
Broder Daniel – I’ll be Gone // It’s just so fierce.
Danse Society – Belief // Listened to a lot of early eighties stuff the last year.
Joy Division – Something Must Break // Pretty self-explanatory.
Modern English – Swans on Glass // Amazing all the way through. I started listening to Modern English after I heard this song. The song really feels like a paranoid modernist nightmare.
Anton Spetze’s Playlist
S K R I E T – Kärlekens Land // Inspiring sound picture for Forever. This guy is also in an amazing band called Pascal.
Broder Daniel – Cadillac // Broder Daniel is the godfather of Swedish indie music, one of Sweden’s absolute best bands.
Broder Daniel – I’ll Be Gone, Whirlwind // BD in their prime 2001.
Fred Åkerström – Glimmande Nymf’ // Troubadour Fred Åkerström render the 1700 skald Bellman.
Jisas Yu Holem Hand Blong Mi – Melanesian Choirs // Just so pure.
The Litter – Codeine // I love codeine.
