Widowspeak Announce The Swamps EP
Widowspeak have released the first single, “True Believer,” from their upcoming EP The Swamps, out October 29th.
And now from the band. Here’s a list of “Five of our favorite things that happened in between the shows, so far this year (and not including the shows themselves, which are another list of favorites and stories):
1. Pawhuska, Oklahoma – We were on our way to Lawrence, Kansas and we stopped by the Tallgrass Prairie Preserve. The roads are pretty much just dirt and gravel, and we were towing a trailer full of gear that was bouncing around like crazy while we were driving deep into this preserve to find the buffalo–we probably should have thought it through beforehand but were determined to find them. And we did find them! Afterwards we went into town and had the best barbecue I’ve probably ever had at a place called Bad Brad’s.
2. LA – After our LA show, we crashed at the hotel room of our friend Elle King. She had been given a pinata full of toy animals, Starbursts, and little tchatchkes. We spent the next day hanging out and napping by the pool under the palm trees, which isn’t the most remarkable thing to do in LA, but a favorite day (as days off often are) because no one had to drive for miles and miles and we actually got to appreciate the sun.
3. Austin, TX – We had some time off during the wildness of SXSW, and wanted to go swimming but Barton Spring was closed, so we went to this river basin nature conservatory outside the city. The water was freezing, so actually only Rob and our bassist Willy were tempted to swim, but there was a waterfall and cool shade. We huge supporters of utilizing swimming holes while on tour.
4. Savannah, Georgia – We just played our first show in Savannah a few days ago, as a duo. It’s such a beautiful town; I fell in love with it. Our friend took us out to Tybee Island the next day, and the water is as warm as a bath. Unfortunately I got stung by a jellyfish, but not too badly. And hey, there’s a first time for everything.
5. Roadside, Nebraska? – We pulled off the highway to get gas at some point in the middle of nowhere, and there was this ancient Sinclair station but it was closed. And then we noticed across the street there was a delapidated wild west town (a recreation) and a sign that says “A Dream Died Here”. It was a really eerie scene. Nobody does a tourist trap like the USA.”
